Squirrels is open to all boys and girls aged 4 to 6 years old.
The 45 minute sessions are a brilliant opportunity for young people to take the first step in joining the Scouting movement, and preparing them for school as well.
Sessions are packed with outdoor activities, badge work, games, lots of fun, and so much more to help our youngest members learn #SkillsForLife
Every other week, we gather in a group called a Squirrel Drey where we try new things, have fun and go on adventures, and lots more!

Badges at Squirrels
There are lots of activity badges available to Squirrels – ranging from being active to exciting experiments – along with challenge awards and staged badge which run throughout all Scouting sections. All of which leads up to the Chief Scout Acorn Badge – the highest award a Squirrel can achieve. By attending each session and doing their best, they’ll have achieved this by time they’re ready to move onto Beavers.
Click below to discover the different badges! If you have a special hobby or skill, such as swimming or you do martial arts, then you could put that towards a Scout badge! Have a chat to your Section Leader to see what they can do.
What’s next?
There’ll be a time when all to do in Squirrels is done, and your young person can move onto the next section – Beavers (aged 6 to 8).
They’ll get to continue their scouting journey and have the opportunity to try bigger challenges.
We offer Beavers at 1st Chelmsford – where your young person can try more adventurous activities, make even more friends, and grow as people as their scouting journey moves through life with them!
